Fees

Fees are typically charged to patients on an individual basis in consideration of AMA / MBS guidelines for differing levels of complexity and consideration given to discounting fees for pensioners / veterans affairs card holders and those who qualify for health care cards to the appropriate rebate level. These fees may be bulk billed at the discretion of the practitioner.

After hours fees

Berwick Medical Centre provides an after hours emergency service. This is provided by the practice’s own doctors in conjunction with a deputising medical service for their locally resident regular patients, . This service may attract a fee above Medicare rebate level for after hours attention.

Medical Records

Medical records are held in a secure electronic &/or hard copy form. The practice may use electronic transmissions during the course of medical management. The record will only be accessed by approved users during the course of their work. The practice may also send reminder/recall letters as part of this practice's preventive health program. The practice also participates in clinical research, accreditation and quality assurance activities that may require access to records by approved users. The practice undertakes to not to use any information that would identify your health record individually without your consent. This practice has been a pioneer in the use of electronic health records

Medical examinations

for multiple or complex problems. health reviews, reports and vocational certificates that involve more detailed consultations - please inform the receptionists so that an appropriate time may be allocated. Telephoning Your Doctor - is best done around midday or in the late afternoon. Consult your doctor about how best to review your test results. We would normally expect you to ring the practice regarding test results unless some prior arrangement has been made. The doctors may need to ring back if they are busy with a patient.

Facilities

Ramp access is available for disabled or injured persons, prams and pushers. A disabled toilet and change facilities for babies are located within the purpose built rooms. A children's play area is located in both the waiting areas.

Repeat Prescriptions

These will be issued on request for current patients who attend regularly for stable conditions, by arrangement with your doctor. It is usual, in the interests of good medical practice, to expect patients requesting prescriptions to have been seen in consultation within the past 6-8 months. It is desirable that 24 hours notice be given when requesting a prescription. A fee will be incurred.

Sterilising

Instruments are prepacked sterile and single use . Equipment is cleaned in accordance with the RACGP recommendations . Our procedures have also been independently reviewed and comply with the RACGP and AGPAL standards. Instruments are single use .

Medical Students

Medical Students attend this practice for teaching and we welcome your assistance and co-operation You may decline their involvement.

Equipment

The practice has a defibrillator, computerised spirometer - a lung function testing device to enhance the management and diagnosis of asthma and other breathing disorders. The practice also has two episcopes- specialised dermatological microscopes which facilitate the diagnosis of skin lesions particularly skin cancers like melanoma. Liquid nitrogen facilities are available for the treatment of appropriate skin lesions. Oxygen and pump driven nebulisers are available.
